Are your mutual obligation activities fair?

Many unemployed workers are being forced to do things that, according to the letter of the law, they do not have to do.

Have a look below at the Government’s official jobseeker requirements tables to ensure the mutual obligation requirement activities your are being told to do by your job agent are fair.

  1. According to this chart (the up to 30 years of age one) I should be attending monthly appointments at the employment agency (MAX Employment) but they are making me see them fortnightly… I only need to see the consultant monthly, 2 weeks is too stressful on me and I am getting nowhere even though I am EXCEEDING what is asked of me. I would like a job but there are no opportunities in Zeehan Tasmania. We have also made complaints to higher authorities due to my consultant bullying me and putting me down. She makes me feel worthless when she does this and despite the complaints and being spoken to by her boss she keeps bullying me.

  2. Did something change because l have been with four different jobnetworks over the past 12 years since our youngest child turned 6 and l have always had to attend face to face job network appointments every fortnight. When the compulsory Centrelink appointments came in l was required to also attend them face to face fortnightly but someone sensible in Centrelink changed them to the maximum 3 monthly ones. I also had to do work for the dole 6 months after our youngest turned 6 despite having worked what l believed was the minimum required of me over that 6 months but l was told different when l disputed it. After l done work for the dole Centrelink told me it was my fault l did it when l didn’t have to. Even since being with disability job network providers for the past few years l still have to attend fortnighty face to face appointments, even when l am meeting my required number or hours of paid employment. At my previous disability job network provider my case manager lied about me and said l didn’t contact them to tell them l coudln’t attend my appointment. I was working nearly full-time and was on about $40 f/n newstart at the time. If the employment was not casual at various times throughout the year l would of told the person on the participation failure number to shove the money when they said to me, ‘if you don’t like it don’t take the money’. I couldn’t of cared less about losing the $40 a f/n if l was employed permanent every week. My current job network provider has been good to me so far & my new case manager has suggested monthly instead of fortnightly appointments as l’m meeting my required work/activities. I have been in the 30 to 49 age group in all this time. Thanks for the table.
