Well, this is exactly my concern. Make no mistake, if I were a business owner of the 7-11 calibre, I would sack my current employees, hire these “interns” for their trial period, and then sack them at the end and replace them with more interns.
I’m not sure if they have the rights to make an unfair dismissal case, but in the end, that’s irrelevant, because who’s going to waste time and money on such a case for a job they only got paid $4/hr for and were only doing to avoid benefit penalties (which could mean homelessness). You might argue that this is not how the system is meant to work, but this is exactly what people will do. Mark my words.
