A solution for inequality?

Universal Basic Income (UBI) has been floated as a solution to poverty and unemployment, especially in anticipation of a new wave of mass job destruction as a result of automation and robotisation. It it has been championed by tech billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg and has been the subject of numerous official research papers.

But is it a real solution to these problems and should the left support it?
