With 10% of Novacastrians living well below the poverty line, and with many measures of social disadvantage above that of State and National averages, Australia’s seemingly endless boom, it would seem has not reached all within our local community.

The Newcastle Anti-Poverty Alliance in collaboration with the Australian Unemployed Workers’ Union, and Politics in the Pub; for Anti-Poverty Week 2018 have assembled 3 prominent locals with knowledge and experience in this field to explore poverty in Newcastle from a diversity of position.

The speakers and panelists for this event are:

  • Professor David Adamson (Knowledge Manager at Compass Housing and Emeritus Professor at The University of South Wales, UK.)

  • Kelly Hansen (CEO of Nova for Women & Children)

  • Hannah Furmage (Australian performance installation artist)
