Lobby Moreland City Council to Raise Newstart

The AUWU is lobbying the Moreland city council to publicly advocate the Newstart rate be increased to the Henderson Poverty Line.

The motion will be discussed at an open session at Moreland City Council at 7pm at Wednesday, 14th February.

Please come down to help us get this motion passed. We need to make it clear that there is overwhelming public support for this issue.

In 2018, we will be pushing councils across the country to advocate for a raise in Newstart.

Why is this Federal policy a local council matter? Because it is at the local level that the fallout of this appalling hole in the social safety net is felt — in the form of increased demands on services already stretched thin.

Thanks to Anti-Poverty Network SA, more than ten local councils have already voted to support a raise to Newstart.
